Visit this link, and take the test honestly if you think that the character you play as in this RP server is a believable character...
http://www.katfeete.net/writing/marysue.html
In my opinion, the acceptable range ranges from 0 points to 30 50 points.

This is just to raise awareness on proper character creation.

In general, you care deeply about Kent Haddock, but you're smart enough to let him stand on his own, without burdening him with your personal fantasies or propping him up with idealization and over-dramatization. Kent Haddock is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of him.

I like that line Wink.

Apparently the purpose is to get as low points as possible

Kent got 26..
Tommy got 58, but obviously since it's considered mary sue in most of roleplaying games vampires with overnatural powers (as in this server we can take sunlight) is considered mary sue.

Sean Bell is suspiciously similar to you as you'd like to be. He isn't really very cool: he blends into crowds, he hangs out on the fringes at parties, and wearing shades after dark makes him run into things. He may have sometimes thought that he was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. He's come in for his share of hurt, but gotten off with minor damage. And he's gotten no slack from you.

Drake Grim is only a little like you. He may be popular, or he may not, but no matter what he's impossible to ignore; he stands out... just the way you always wanted to. He may have sometimes thought that he was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. He's had more than his fair share of hard knocks, and probably spends more time than he ought moaning about it. And he's gotten no slack from you.

In my opinion, scores that are too low are characters which are boring whereas scores that are ridiculously high are characters that tend to make people laugh. Anthony Weber gets too much of a low score, making him a character that seems too much like a cameo or a minor character rather than someone who could be a main character

You guys have characters that are quite cool for role-playing, i'm quite surprised! Especially considering that many of you control vampire characters but yet do not get a ridiculously high score. (i.e. 50 and above). On the other hand, getting low scores (i think 20 and below) creates characters which are very realistic, but risk being boring. Anyway, at least this got people thinking :3

In the roleplay world, at least in this kind of roleplay you're not supposed to act like god because that would not be fair, nor realistic therefore there's limits and rules in roleplay preventing it.
We are originaly humans all of us, vampires and werewolves and we are not given to many powers for a reason.
Unrealistic - super powered characters = Mary Sue

Wendy Seban is only a little like you. She is so impossibly hip that she has difficulty seeing over her own pelvis; she'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. She may have sometimes thought that she was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. She's had more than her fair share of hard knocks, and probably spends more time than she ought moaning about it. And she's gotten no slack from you.

You may have let yourself get a little too close to Wendy Seban. Maybe she's you as you wish you were, or maybe you're just afraid no one will like her and are trying to give her a free ride. Have some confidence in your writing! Wendy Seban is a good character. Give her room to be herself before you stifle her.

The point is to get as low points as possible, the more points - the unrealistic your character is. But the fact that this is a different kind of RP I assume 30-50 is acceptable lol.

Post by Edward Veatress Wed Aug 10, 2011 11:13 pm

Edward_Veatress isn't a character: he's you, or you as you'd like to be. He is so impossibly hip that he has difficulty seeing over his own pelvis; he'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. He always knew he was special, destined for great things - and probablyf made sure everyone else knew it too. He's had a rough life - to say the least! Angst? Histronics? His speciality. And you, his creator, have spoilt him rotten and given him everything he wanted.

You identify far too heavily with Edward_Veatress, and defend him from all sides, never realizing that in your quest to make him perfect you are alienating your readers. Back off and take a break. Try writing the story from the viewpoint of a different character, one you have less sympathy with... or writing a different story and coming back to this one.
