Arrested and charged for a crime I did not commit

I, Alex Cyril, was arrested and charged for beating a man to death even though there was a witness who stated I was innocent. The individual who commited this crime was arrested later, but charges on me were not dropped. I just ask why didn't the Sherrif's Department look into it or believed the witness, Marko Jandaz (( I forgot the last name, this one probably isn't correct but it does start with a J )).
